Dade County Adventure

The long rides and sunny valleys make Dade County, Georgia one of the premier places in the world for hang gliding. Located high above the city of Trenton, Lookout Mountain Flight Park is the largest training facility in the United States, if not the world. On a good day scores of gliders can be seen flying thousands of feet above the valley.

Water, time, and the soft stone typical of the Cumberland Plateau have combined to create some of the most spectacular caves and underground waterfalls in the world. While most of these caves are accessible only to trained cavers, the public can tour the caverns at Ruby Falls, Raccoon Mountain, and Sequoyah Caverns. Raccoon Mountain also provides more strenuous tours to those interested in the sport of spelunking.

World class whitewater is only an hour away from Dade County featuring America’s most famous section of class III & IV whitewater. The roaring Upper Ocoee, site of the 1996 Olympic whitewater events, has taken on the best boaters in the world. A little further east is the "wild and scenic" Chattooga River, rated one of the 10 best runs in the country.

Some of the best bouldering in the Southeast can be found at nearby Rocktown on Pigeon Mountain. Even if you do not climb, there is compelling hiking among the ancient formations. Rock climbing and rappelling are also popular in this area. Training is available from nearby schools.
